PROJECT : TYRE SCREECH
Fan project re-imagining / case study of an existing theme park area. Study of how minor improvements could be made to contribute to a new story-line and tie existing products together more cohesively.
This project is a fully fledged pitch for a cost effective but high value mini-revamp for the Dark Forest area at Alton Towers Resort. This would see the area transformed into the 1930’s “Shrewsbury Forest Fete” , an annual Great British celebration held in the forest outskirts of Alton Towers.
The race cars are ready at the dirt race track, music is blaring, and the tinkering of cans falling at the carnival stands is echoing all around. Frederick Fleming’s Fantabulous Electro-Fun-icular Railway is set to open at any time – a whistle-stop high speed tour of a once magnificent dilapidated area of the Towers grounds. However all is not as it seems - The fete has awoken a dark force, causing mysterious and disturbing occurrences , but the show must go on – try to enjoy the fun of the fair but don’t journey into the woods alone…
GRAPHICS AND AREA EPHEMERA
The feel and tone of the area reflects that of the era with the thematic motif changing throughout your journey into the whimsy and unknown.
The vibrancy of the fairground, with the smell of candy floss lingering in the air and festoon lights twinkling all around. Tin cans toppling left and right.
The overbearing smell of burning rubber at the raceway, as 'Rita & The Queens of Speed' are singing their raceway themed songs. The race announcements are thick and fast, detailing the daring races happening throughout the woods.
A fortune teller's tent ominously beckons you in, nestled in an area of the fete that seems forgotten. Upon entering,dark auras posses you as ghostly voices whisper all around. You're now in the far distant future from the 1930's, viewing a dark vision of things to come.
Banners are tattered, railway signage is rotten and rusted, covered with creeping vine and ivy. A foreboding ruin of a building towers over the forest as you venture on. Lightning strikes its peak and darts deep into the building. You feel the need to investigate further...
