PROJECT THUNDER SCRAP
Re-imagining fan project of the forbidden valley area at Alton Towers Resort
This is a fan project NON OFFICIAL re-design for A re-imagined Forbidden Valley area at Alton Towers Resort developed in early 2021.
Mimicking Mad Max esque architecture, a fortress of rusted steel, car parts, scrap metal and cloth precariously looms over the entrance to the Forbidden Valley. Once the bustling tourist destination of Happy Valley—the town is now a terrifying wasteland of deranged ‘wastelanders’, mutated alien life, and the few remaining military operatives defending it. The flaming vandalized sign for the town now acts as a disturbing signal of things to come, but you can’t help but feel the urge to continue onward. You edge closer underneath the creaking metalwork into the light. Silhouettes seem to dash and clatter above you, and the ground seems to ominously rumble.
The discovery of the Nemesis monster in the town of Happy Valley has set in motion a series of events nobody could have prepared for. Fierce electrical storms, earthquakes, destruction and havoc have erupted throughout the country.
Those who have stayed are pitted in a battle of man vs. the extraterrestrial. Few of the Phalanx operatives who were sent to keep the Nemesis monster under control remain, and those that do are in fierce conflict with a group who are calling themselves 'the wastelanders'. Chaos and social collapse is rife, and the wastelanders patrol the area in apocalyptic vehicles kitted out with weaponry, looking for new victims who have entered their colony - The Forbidden Valley. Jagged metal, scrap, tall rock faces and the graffiti ridden ruins of buildings of a past era dominate the landscape.
Which faction you join once you enter the wasteland is up to you…
ALTERNATE LOGO
ENTRANCE MINIATURE
I created a miniature model of a (slightly) alternative entrance for the ride - A communication tower of sorts that's been long abandoned, its blueish hue only just poking through the years of rust, foliage, and anything else the apocalypse has thrown at it. The model features numerous details, such as rockwork, protest signs, communications arrays, satellite dishes, toxic waste barrels, sleeping bag hideouts and booby traps - all of which are hand painted (including the entrance signage). It appears as if somebody has set up camp in the old tower... they could even be watching right now...
